Keep reading to find the answer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the CEC?<\/strong> The CEC (California Energy Commission) is the state of California\u2019s primary energy policy and planning agency. It is focused on reducing energy costs and the environmental impacts of energy use\u2014such as greenhouse gas emissions\u2014 while ensuring a safe, resilient, and reliable supply of energy. While the CEC has regulatory authority for most products sold or offered for sale in the state of California, its policies impact products produced for other regions as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Title 20?<\/strong> Title 20 is a part of the CEC\u2019s Appliance Efficiency Regulations, from the California Code of Regulations. \u00a0The California Energy Commission adopted new standards updating the 2015 Appliance Efficiency Regulations (Title 20) for lighting appliances. The first updates to this set of Regulations was released in January 2018 and Tier 2 will be effective July 1, 2019.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Notably, this update adds standards for small-diameter directional lamps. The updated regulations incorporate elements of\u00a0lighting product quality for both general service LED lamps and small-diameter directional lamps in addition to the traditional lighting appliance efficiency standards previously included in the regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The addition of these new standards will\u00a0require revisions to the California Appliance Efficiency Database product certification process, as well as updates to product\u00a0labeling requirements for lamp marking, marketing material, and product packaging.<\/p>\n<p>The lighting products currently in Title 20 that affect Emergency Light products for sale at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitlightco.com\">www.exitlightco.com<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitlightco.com\/category\/Emergency-Ballasts.html\">Fluorescent Lamp Ballasts<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitlightco.com\/category\/Bulbs-Lamps.html\">Lamps<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitlightco.com\/category\/Exit-Signs.html\">Exit Signs &amp; Self-Contained Lighting Controls<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.exitlightco.com\/category\/Emergency-Lights.html\">Battery Charging Systems<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our products will contain a label in the \u201cFeatures\u201d section specifying if the product is CEC compliant.<\/p>\n<p>Major changes include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Updates to Lamp Regulations &amp; Categories:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>General service LED lamps\u00a0<\/em>are now regulated as a separate category from other light sources in\u00a0the general service lamp category. New requirements include specific performance metrics and\u00a0corresponding test methods to quantify product performance in an industry-recognized manner.\u00a0<em>Small diameter directional lamps\u00a0<\/em>with a diameter of 2.25 inches or less that are equipped\u00a0with ANSI compliant base-types or the\u00a0E26\u00a0base type are now regulated. New requirements\u00a0apply to both low- and line-voltage lamps.\u00a0<em>Portable luminaires\u00a0<\/em>that are equipped with a socket requiring a general service lamp\u00a0must be packaged with a compact fluorescent lamp or LED lamp that adheres to the\u00a0updated lamp requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>California Appliance Efficiency Database:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe appliance database filing structure that manufacturers use to submit products for listing with\u00a0the California Energy Commission will include new product categories and performance metrics\u00a0starting January 1, 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Product Labeling:<\/strong><br \/>\nManufacturers must test and certify their products with the updated regulations before including\u00a0claims of\u00a0dimmability, incandescent lamp equivalency, wattage equivalence, decorative lamp\u00a0lumen output, or compliance with the Voluntary California Quality LED Lamp Specification in\u00a0their lamp marking, marketing material, and package labeling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newer Lighting Regulations have come to California under Title 20.\u00a0 What is Title 20?\u00a0 Who Created it?
