Q Maureen Hinsey • 12/31/2018, 4:25:18 PM Can you please tell me exactly what part of the NFPA 101 code addresses these photo luminous exit signs? I’ve been told the ones I have in my facility are not up to code. Thank you!
A Exit Light Co. Hello! NFPA 101 Section 7.10.7.2 specifically addresses the use of Photoluminescent exit signs. However, we suggest consulting with your local fire marshal as it is up to their discretion.
Q Sofia • 06/14/2019, 11:33:48 AM Can I use Aluminum Photoluminescent Exit Signs with 3500K LED light?
A Exit Light Co. This unit does not charge with LED lighting. It requires 54 LUX (5-ft candles) of fluorescent, metal halide or mercury vapor light to charge material for 60 minutes.
Q Timothy Ulrich • 06/24/2019, 10:53:47 AM Do these glow-in-the-dark signs have a life span?
A Exit Light Co. The PA2 series have a 20 year life span.
Q Markus • 07/17/2019, 11:59:34 AM How are Photoluminescent Exit Signs different from Tritium Exit Signs?
A Exit Light Co. Photoluminescent "Glow in the Dark" Exit Signs require a minimum of 5 FC (footcandles) of ambient lighting* to continuously keep them charged. Once dark, this sign will begin illuminating. Tritium Exit Signs use harmless radioactive material to always be illuminated for the life of the exit sign, either 10 or 20 years. They don't need a charge, but have special requirements for purchase and disposal. *Certain Photoluminescent Exit Signs are not compatible with LED light
