QMaureen Hinsey • 12/31/2018, 4:25:18 PMCan you please tell me exactly what part of the NFPA 101 code addresses these photo luminous exit signs?
I’ve been told the ones I have in my facility are not up to code.
AExit Light Co.
Hello! NFPA 101 Section 188.8.131.52 specifically addresses the use of Photoluminescent exit signs. However, we suggest consulting with your local fire marshal as it is up to their discretion.

QMarkus • 07/17/2019, 11:59:34 AMHow are Photoluminescent Exit Signs different from Tritium Exit Signs?
AExit Light Co.
Photoluminescent "Glow in the Dark" Exit Signs require a minimum of 5 FC (footcandles) of ambient lighting* to continuously keep them charged. Once dark, this sign will begin illuminating. Tritium Exit Signs use harmless radioactive material to always be illuminated for the life of the exit sign, either 10 or 20 years. They don't need a charge, but have special requirements for purchase and disposal.
*Certain Photoluminescent Exit Signs are not compatible with LED light
