What makes a sign ADA compliant?


ADA requirements ensure that signage is accessible and easily understandable for individuals with various disabilities. These signs help identify or provide information about a permanent room, space, or feature. Some requirements include:

1. Finish: Characters on signs should have a non-glare finish.
2. Contrast: High contrast coloring is required between the background and all content except braille.
3. Typeface and Font: Lettering must be in sans serif fonts. These have clean, straight lines without additional flourishes or decorative elements at the tips of the characters, making them easier to read. Examples of sans serif fonts include Arial and Helvetica. Size and spacing requirements also apply.
4. Mounting Height: Tactile characters should be at least 48 inches above the finish floor, measured from the bottom of the lowest tactile character, with a maximum of 60 inches in height measured from the bottom of the highest tactile character.
5. Braille: Round Grade 2 braille characters are required.


Our Signs:

We carry ADA compliant restroom, exit, stair, and “Not An Exit” signage. All of our signs are easy to mount with 3M peel-off adhesive strips.

ADA Restroom Signs and Bathroom Signs: These signs include a pictogram (graphic symbol), clear lettering, and Grade 2 Braille. Our options include men’s restroom, women’s restroom, and all gender restroom with an option to include wheelchair accessibility.
ADA Exit Signs: These signs can be ordered as lettering with Grade 2 braille, or include a pictogram.
ADA Stair Signs: Includes a pictogram along with lettering and Grade 2 braille.
