The EMIN-M inverter system is a compact, surface-mounted emergency lighting solution designed to deliver sinusoidal AC emergency power for 50-watt lighting loads, supporting incandescent, fluorescent, and LED fixtures. Engineered for easy installation on or near the controlled fixture, the unit supports Normally-ON, Normally-OFF, switched operation, or any combination thereof, allowing flexible integration into a wide range of lighting control applications. The EMIN-M is UL 924 Listed and complies with NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NEC, OSHA, and applicable local and state codes. Optional -CEC model is certified to California Energy Commission (CEC) Title 20 regulations, and the unit is FCC Part 15 Class B compliant, ensuring energy efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Construction

The EMIN-M inverter is housed in a heavy-duty steel cabinet finished with a white baked-on powder coat that provides excellent scratch and corrosion resistance.

CHARGER

The EMIN-M inverter incorporates a fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode battery charger designed to meet UL 924 recharge duty cycle requirements. Charger power consumption is limited to 9W maximum (all models) for energy-efficient operation. Standard controls include a momentary test switch and LED status indicators for AC-On, Charge-On, and Inverter-On. Integrated safety circuitry features AC lockout to prevent battery discharge prior to initial power-up and brownout protection that automatically transfers the unit to emergency mode when utility voltage is significantly reduced.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The EMIN-M inverter is rated for installation at altitudes up to 10,000 feet above sea level without derating. The operating temperature range is 68°F to 86°F, with optimum system performance achieved within this range. Temperatures outside the recommended range may affect battery performance and service life. The unit is designed to operate in environments with up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.

Emergency Operation

Upon loss of normal utility power, the EMIN-M inverter automatically activates through a solid-state switching circuit, providing a minimum of 90 minutes of emergency power to the connected load while maintaining 100% of the lamp’s rated lumen output for the entire duration. A solid-state low-voltage disconnect protects the battery from deep discharge during extended outages. When normal utility power is restored, the unit automatically transfers the load back to normal operation and the fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode charger recharges the battery to full capacity in accordance with UL 924 requirements. An integrated brownout sensing circuit ensures proper performance during low-line voltage conditions.

Battery - Battery Backup

The EMIN-M inverter utilizes a 12VDC sealed lead calcium (SLA) battery system with a 10-year design life and provides a 90-minute standard emergency runtime. Battery protection includes a low-voltage battery disconnect to prevent deep discharge during prolonged power outages, along with DC overload and short-circuit protection provided by a DC input fuse to ensure safe and reliable operation.

LOAD COMPATIBILITY

Load Compatibility: The EMIN-M inverter’s clean, true sinusoidal AC output is designed to operate incandescent, fluorescent, and LED lighting loads, ensuring reliable compatibility with common fixture types. Lighting loads are driven at 100% output for the full emergency power cycle, maintaining consistent illumination to enhance occupant egress visibility and safety during power interruptions. Performance characteristics include ±5% voltage regulation during battery discharge (0–100% linear load), ±0.3 Hz frequency regulation during emergency operation, and less than 3% total harmonic distortion (THD). The inverter provides a transfer time of less than one second, supports a 0.44 lead to 0.44 lag power factor range, allows 0% minimum loading, and incorporates inverter fuse protection for safe and reliable operation.
