Construction

The EMIN-XL inverter is housed in a heavy-duty steel cabinet finished with a white baked-on powder coat that provides excellent scratch and corrosion resistance.

CHARGER

The EMIN-XL inverter is equipped with a fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode battery charger that meets UL 924 recharge duty cycle requirements. Charger-only power consumption is rated at 53W maximum (4.3W standby) for the 750W model and 73W maximum (6.7W standby) for the 1150W model. A dedicated battery circuit breaker functions as both overcurrent protection and a battery isolator. Standard controls include a momentary test switch and LED status indicators for AC-On, Charge-On, and Inverter-On. Built-in safety circuitry features AC lockout to prevent battery discharge prior to initial startup and brownout protection that automatically transfers the unit to emergency mode when utility voltage drops below acceptable levels.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The EMIN-XL inverter is rated for installation at altitudes up to 10,000 feet above sea level without derating. The recommended operating temperature range is 68°F to 86°F, with optimum system performance achieved within this range. Operation outside these temperatures may impact overall system performance, battery capacity, and service life. The unit is designed to operate in environments with up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.

Emergency Operation

Upon loss of normal utility power, the EMIN-XL inverter automatically activates via a solid-state switching circuit to supply a minimum of 90 minutes of emergency power to the connected load while maintaining 100% of the lamp’s rated lumen output for the full duration. A solid-state low-voltage disconnect protects the batteries from damage caused by deep discharge. Once normal utility power is restored, the unit automatically transfers the load back to normal operation and engages a fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode charger to recharge the batteries to full capacity in accordance with UL 924 requirements. An integrated brownout sensing circuit ensures proper operation during low-line voltage conditions.

Battery - Battery Backup

The EMIN-XL inverter uses a sealed lead calcium (SLA) battery system with a 10-year design life, utilizing 12V, 18Ah SLA batteries. The 750W system is supplied with five (5) batteries for a nominal 48VDC configuration, while the 1150W system includes eight (8) batteries for a 72VDC configuration. Standard emergency runtime is 90 minutes, based on battery performance at 77°F (25°C), with extended runtimes available upon request. Battery protection features include a low-voltage battery disconnect to prevent deep discharge during prolonged outages, as well as reverse polarity, DC overload, and short-circuit protection provided by a dedicated DC input breaker and fuse.

Operational Temperature

Temperature Ratings
Standard Option 68°F to 86°F
Note* Operation outside the recommended temperature range may impact overall system performance, battery capacity, and battery service life.

LOAD COMPATIBILITY

The EMIN-XL inverter’s clean, true sinusoidal AC output is designed to reliably operate incandescent, fluorescent, induction, and LED lighting loads, ensuring broad compatibility with commonly used lamp types. Lighting loads are driven at 100% output for the entire emergency power cycle, maintaining full illumination levels to enhance occupant egress visibility and safety during power outages. When equipped with the "Adjustable Output / Dimmer Bypass" option, emergency loads can be dimmed to 25%, 50%, or 75% of full illumination, providing flexible light levels during emergency operation while reducing overall inverter capacity requirements. Compatibility with other lamp types is available upon request; consult the factory for specific applications.

Electrical Components

The EMIN-XL inverter features dual 120 or 277 VAC ±10% input, user-selectable via provided jumper wires, operating at 60 Hz with ±2% frequency tolerance, and includes UL 924 compliant surge protection. Input protection is supplied by the building service panel rated at 20 amps maximum. The unit delivers 120 or 277 VAC, 60 Hz output with a digitally controlled true sinusoidal waveform, achieving up to 98% efficiency at full rated load. Performance characteristics include ±5% voltage regulation during battery discharge (0–100% linear load), ±0.3 Hz frequency regulation during emergency operation, and less than 3% total harmonic distortion (THD). The inverter provides a transfer time of less than one second, supports a 0.88 lead to 0.88 lag power factor range, allows 0% minimum loading, and incorporates integral circuit breaker and overload shutdown protection for reliable and safe operation.
