Construction

The EMIN-L inverter is housed in a heavy-duty steel cabinet finished with a white baked-on powder coat that provides excellent scratch and corrosion resistance.

CHARGER

The EMIN-L inverter incorporates a fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode battery charger designed to meet UL 924 recharge duty cycle requirements. Charger power consumption is optimized for efficiency, drawing a maximum of 37W (2.5W standby) for the 300W model and 56W (5W standby) for the 600W model. A dedicated battery circuit breaker serves as both overcurrent protection and a battery isolation means. Standard controls include a momentary test switch and LED status indicators for AC-On, Charge-On, and Inverter-On. Integrated safety circuitry features AC lockout to prevent battery discharge prior to initial power-up and brownout protection that automatically transfers the unit to emergency mode when utility voltage drops to unsafe levels.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The EMIN-L inverter is designed for indoor applications with an operating temperature range of 68°F to 86°F (20°C to 30°C), with optimum system performance achieved within this range. At higher elevations, maximum operating temperature is reduced by 1°C per 300 meters (2°F per 1,000 feet) above sea level. Relative humidity is rated up to 95% non-condensing. Operation outside the recommended temperature range may impact overall system performance, battery capacity, and battery service life.

Emergency Operation

Upon loss of normal utility power, the EMIN-L inverter automatically activates via a solid-state switching circuit to supply a minimum of 90 minutes of emergency power to the connected load while maintaining 100% of the lamp’s rated lumen output for the full duration. A solid-state low-voltage disconnect protects the batteries from damage caused by deep discharge. Once normal utility power is restored, the unit automatically transfers the load back to normal operation and engages a fully automatic, temperature-compensated, dual-mode charger to recharge the batteries to full capacity in accordance with UL 924 requirements. An integrated brownout sensing circuit ensures proper operation during low-line voltage conditions.

Battery - Battery Backup

The EMIN-L inverter uses a sealed lead calcium (SLA) battery system with a 10-year design life, utilizing 12V, 18Ah SLA batteries. The 375W system is supplied with five (5) batteries for a nominal 48–60 VDC configuration, while the 600W system includes eight (8) batteries for a 96 VDC configuration. Standard emergency runtime is 90 minutes, based on battery performance at 77°F (25°C), with extended runtimes available upon request. Battery protection features include a low-voltage battery disconnect to prevent deep discharge during prolonged outages, as well as reverse polarity, DC overload, and short-circuit protection provided by a dedicated DC input breaker and fuse.

Standard Option 68°F to 86°F
Note* Operation outside the recommended temperature range may impact overall system performance, battery capacity, and battery service life.

LOAD COMPATIBILITY

The EMIN-L inverter’s clean, true sinusoidal AC output is designed to reliably operate incandescent, fluorescent, induction, and LED lighting loads, ensuring broad compatibility with commonly used lamp types. Lighting loads are driven at 100% output for the entire emergency power cycle, maintaining full illumination levels to enhance occupant egress visibility and safety during power outages. Compatibility with other lamp types is available upon request; consult the factory for specific applications.

Electrical Components

The EMIN-L inverter features universal 120 or 277 VAC, 60 Hz input, user-selectable via provided wire jumpers, with input frequency tolerance of ±2% and surge protection compliant with UL 924. Input protection is supplied by the building service panel rated at 20 amps maximum. On the output side, the system delivers 120 or 277 VAC at 60 Hz with a digitally controlled sinusoidal waveform, achieving up to 98% efficiency at full rated load. Output performance includes ±5% voltage regulation during battery discharge, ±0.3 Hz frequency regulation during emergency operation, and less than 3% total harmonic distortion (THD) with linear loads. The inverter provides a transfer time of under one second, supports a 0.88 lead to 0.88 lag power factor range, allows 0% minimum loading, and incorporates integral circuit breaker protection on the output.
